One of the things that I left behind when I moved servers was the CAPTCHA system I had running before. I should note that that system meant I had almost no spam on my blogs for a period of a couple of years. Now, I get several score messages caught in the moderation queue every day. The downside was that people often had difficulty getting the CAPTCHA to work. Part of that was not the issue of CAPTCHA generally, but the particular implementation I was using, which was not very user friendly. But more generally, I don’t mind having to moderate a bit of spam, but I hate killing messages from real people.
As time permits, I’ll be trying some new things over the next couple of weeks to cut down on that moderation queue. If you are rejected, don’t sulk. Please email me so that I can try something else. Comments are important to me. And yes, they will be moving back into the sidebar of the main page as soon as I get some spare time to hack on the template.
Spam, spam, spam, spam…
