Time is running a piece on invitation-only online clubs. A lifetime ago, in internet years, I envisioned starting just such a club. A filter for a very exclusive group of opinion leaders. Then I decided that would be dumb.
They profile one such system, called aSmallWorld. The trick is (didn’t they get the memo), that small worlds are actually ways of getting short distances over large populations. If they are really offering something of interest, it won’t be long before half of Brazil has colonized their elite club. And then it won’t be so elite, will it?
How to keep hoi polloi out? I’ll have to go back to the drawing board, I guess.
Snooty small worlds
