I’ve already complained about my lack of hotness on Rate My Professor. According to Inside Higher Ed, James Felton crunched the numbers and found that there is a postitive linear relationship between “hotness” and quality ratings, as well as between “easiness” and quality ratings. Or, as Inside Higher Ed has it “If you’re not sexy, you might want to be easy.”
Only, I’m neither. I went and looked up my rating and found that my “Hotness Total” was zero, and my Average Easiness was 3.1. A quick look at my colleagues in the Communication Department indicates that the 3.1 is well below average, yet my quality rating is pretty OK, especially considering the number of reviews I have (17).
Obviously, my focus has been wrong in my teaching. I need to focus on my hotness. Maybe we can start a professorial makeover show and broadcast it on the web.
I’m a cold outlier
