Since I haven’t had much to say this week (too busy), I’ll go for another Friday Five:
1. What is your favorite scary movie?
I’m not a huge fan of what many people consider scary. It has to be at least partially believable for me to find it frightening, which means it is often those movies that blur the line between the real world and fantasy, allowing you to see through the eyes of someone who is (or may be) losing their grip on reality. Along these lines: Jacob’s Ladder, Serpent & the Rainbow, and Donnie Darko, and several by TerryGilliam.
2. What is your favorite Halloween treat?
I don’t normally like sweets. I did as a kid, but not so much any more. That said, I’m not immune to a kandy korn kernal or two. M&Ms are still fun– especially now that you can customize.
3. Do you dress up for Halloween? If so, describe your best Halloween costume.
I like to dress up, but I’ve always been caught between a desire for perfection and the time/means to achieve it. Dracula was a favorite from early on, and made good use of my widow’s peak at a young age. Oh, had I known that would not always be so “cool.” I was a trenchcoated spy several years. My favorite costume, however, is likely the one that was made on very short notice: Oberon. I had a crown of eucalyptus, a (very) badly made tunic, and green makeup. I think it was the company rather than the costume that made it a good Halloween.
4. Do you enjoy going to haunted houses or other spooky events?
Nope. Real life is spooky enough. Disney’s Haunted Mansion is the exception. Always loved it.
5. Will you dress up for Halloween this year?
I won’t have time for a costume this year, and since it hits on a Thursday, I will probably be locked in my office all day, lacking an audience. I’ll have to make my own un-Halloweens later in the year. I’ve dressed up on non-Halloween days before (Matrix day, Batman day), I don’t see why Halloween should be the only costumed day.
