Have you tried “dinosaur eggs“? Saw them at Fairway and they looked a little odd, so I figured they were worth a try. Absolutely delicious.
It’s not really a frankenfruit in that the genes have not been directly altered. It is instead a particular hybrid of plums and apricot (more of the former than the latter), that results in the sweetness of the plum, but with a bit of apricot texture. There are lots of hybrids out there these days: aprplums, plumcots, and, like this one, “pluots(r).” If you get the chance, give one a try.

I just recently tried a grapple from Wegman’s. It was excellent, minus the hurt that this particular fruit put on my pocketbook.
Nectarine/mango hybrids just showed up at my corner grocery last month. No catchy name yet (Mangarines? Nectgoes?) but super-fragrant and yummy. Also black velvet apricots, which I’m not sure if they’re a hybrid or specialty breed or what – typical apricot deliciousness and orange/yellow flesh but with a dark, purple-black fuzzy skin.
