What Iceberg?

I’m really disappointed, but I’m giving up on any possibility of getting a paper in for the very interesting looking YouTube and the 2008 Election Cycle workshop. I had a small seminar last semester, and we collected and coded a sample of YouTube videos that appeared in mainstream broadcast news, and then looked through the most popular YouTube videos to characterize their use of mainstream news clips (which is very frequent).

By the end of the semester, we had the data collected and coded, and had started to sort through a framing analysis, but there was nothing approaching a completed paper. I had planned on working on it over the break, but with the new baby and lots of other obligations, it just didn’t happen. And unfortunately, this month isn’t any less crazy, with two new courses needing my attention, and several other projects in various stages of production.

As it is, I’m kicking myself for spending too many hours trying to put this together, only to not be able to get it in. That was time I should have spent on other projects, which are now overdue. Argh.

I guess the upside is that I know what I’m submitting for AoIR.
