Web-based distributed micro-management

Since the “Friday Five” (.org) is dead, the meme is deceased, let’s talk about another friday five (.com).

The idea of Friday Fives is perhaps not that new–something like them has rotated through offices on a regular basis. It’s basically a way of reporting performance. Like other performance and benchmarking measures, it provides a metric that tracks how well an organization is meeting its objectives, and like many metrics, its mere existence has an effect on that system. Does putting them on-line make a difference?

(I started this entry with a particular article in mind, one that discussed the use of web-based employee monitoring systems. Now I’ve lost the link. Hm. I’ll come back to this…)
