RFID is sweeping into retail shops before you know it, which is a strange thing. You will probably have RFID in your clothes before you have a chance to think much about it. Luckily, a few folks in our department are thinking about it, and we are talking about it in our surveillance seminar, but it seems that the public at large is blissfully unaware of the privacy implications of these devices. Mind you, there are also some very significant advantages to the technology, it’s just a matter of mitigating the downside. Luckily, at least some mainstream (?) journalists, like those at Wired News are giving it some coverage. Hopefully, this will extend to a broader public discussion before the issue is moot, and the public is mute.
