    How exactly does a trackback work? I’ve seen it on lots of other sites, but it still confuses me. . .

    There is an article on it over at Technology Review on this (the original charges for it). At a basic level, it allows you to set up a link to a discussion on your blog to something on my blog (you can already do this), and for me to be able to have the reciprocal link back to your discussion (you can’t already do this). This allows, at one end, for sites like KMPings (which Seb pointed out below) which collect blog entries related to a particular topic, or more prosaically, we could be carrying out this discussion in such a way that it appeared on both of our blogs.

    It would probably make highly active discussions even more visible and widely read. Cool.
