yes: really close withtom savage, ect....there's a million poets (some tough to get, but if its connected with suny, you got a better chance of getting someone great up there (especially if you guys record and store in some archive in a university library, maybe even MP3 and file share the poems right from the library audio visual center; there are many types of poets, some young, others old. i looked at the sept project and not many centers in nyc...

just finished talking with tom about a magazine titled souveillence that we are putting together; will forward the call for papers when ready to you guys, also joi ito is into academics these days, make sure alex gets in touch with him to maybe guest blog...

but back to the sept project, the st marks project can send a group of poets to read at the library or may have a list of local poets that may not know about what you guys are doing and may be great persons to read poetry about 9/11.

tom would definitly do it if he has somewhere to stay as well as transportation; he is a great walking history of poetry from the lower east side over the last 35 years

maybe just writting a review of september day would be a great essay for our magazine; look up sousveillence and how the idea of transparency fits in with blogging ect...

maybe all you need to do is to call st marks poetry project and invite pattie smith; maybe then, you could get someone like anne waldman to tag along.

this ani person kind of writes weak poetry. if you guys have a great cause, patti would do it. maybe even for free. now thats a real poet.

David - have you ever organized a concert? The last time that i organized one (Tracy Chapman), day-of prep started at 5AM with sound and stage construction. Artists arrived in their dressing rooms by noon and sound check was at 2PM. Vocals need to be relaxed so artists often don't speak after sound check, but retire to their room with lots and lots of water. I've never heard of an artist doing 2 concerts in the same day. At the most, artists will give same-day interviews.

If you're looking for bands I can highly recommend Last Conservative (<a href="http://www.lastconservative.com">lastconservative.com</a>). They're one of the bands on Robbie Takac's (Goo Goo Dolls) new record label and IMO are the hottest local band. Others to consider would be bands that made the final round at the Emergenza battle of the bands (<a href="http://www.emergenza.net">emergenza.net</a>). <a href="http://www.wnymusic.com">wnymusic.com</a> is a great resource for this type of thing as well.

thanks, danah, for the heads up.

we are speaking with a number of music people about this right now. the idea is this: while most bands (small, medium, superstar) are already booked for saturday NIGHT, what about saturDAY? the idea is that perhaps on saturDAY, september 11, bands across the country and the world will play free and public shows. voter registration will accompany all shows.

It's a bit late to be able to get most artists to perform. Ani tends to beook 12-16 months out. I'm not sure of the status of other artists on her label.

RBR does not do booking for Ani or for those on her label. Ani, and some of the others, book through Fleming and Associates. You could try talking to Fleming to see if anyone is free. The booking email is: karla@flemingartists.com (This is the public address from RBR and i've used it before without a problem.)

The roster of Fleming artists is at: http://www.flemingartists.com/roster.html
