I keep watching the robotics news hoping for an indication that commercial personal robots have a chance at reaching the take-off stage. I really thought the AIBO would be a big push in that direction, and Honda’s Asimo is exciting enough to generate new interest, I think. But just like with the PC, there needs to be a more active and concentrated hobbyist community. Fortunately, some of the necessary parts are falling in price, and systems that are inviting to disassemble are slowly making their way out. This LA Weekly article describes one of them.
