Right. I’m not at all understanding why people are critical of this. I mean, of course it isn’t going to end spam, but the criticisms of it seem really silly. Those criticisms:

1. It will end the impact of blogs on Google. Plainly silly. The largest impact of blogs comes of the body, not the spam. No one is going to use nofollow in their own posts.

2. It will mean that people can link without passing googlejuice, if they want to. Yes? And? The Kuro5hin article makes it sound as if people have a lot of pent-up rage that will just burst through if they aren’t worried about pumping up people’s PageRank. Don’t buy that. Especially when I talk about hate sites, I don’t want their PageRanks to go up, and I like having the ability to specify that.

3. People might just start charging for comment spam. Monetizing spam is where it’s at. If people want to allow others to use their comment space for spam, fine by me. It’s then called *advertising*. What I hate is that I am going to have to pay this month a sizable amount of money to cover bandwidth wasted by referral-spammers. That’s tantamount to theft.

That did the trick! There was another nofollow plugin posted, but yours handles both the ‘a’ tag version of links and WordPress’s conversion of URL’s into links. That is exactly perfect! Great job and thanks for your efforts!

Man, I’m worse than Microsoft! The zip file was not the right file. To avoid confusion, I’ve incremented the version to 0.02a. I’ve also edited the post to the left to link directly to the (correct) zip file.

Looks like there is more wrong with the file. It has an opening php tag (, but no closing part (?>). It has an if statement and two functions. Is that all it’s supposed to have? Hard to tell…


Definatly want to implement this as soon as possible. Just to add insult to injury to those nasty comment spammers. :)
