OK. I get as fed up as anyone with people who want to regulate what words should and shouldn’t be used. Nonetheless, can we just agree to stop calling the War On Terror(tm) and related military actions “crusades.” Listening to Powell’s prepared remarks today before the 9/11 commission, and he actually refers to a “crusade” in Afghanistan.
No, we aren’t battling Islam, just terrorists. Really. We mean crusades in an entirely metaphorical sense. God bless America.

Language police in the US should perhaps be mandating people use more words? Sooner rather than later there will be no words left except those of the Bible and Texan interpretations of it.
