In Memorium

Went this evening to the wake for Tim Butler, a 15-year-old neighbor who was hit by a car after running with his track team. I had only talked with Tim maybe once or twice, Jamie had talked with him a bit more. Nonetheless, we had both privately expressed what a neat kid we thought he was. He was one of those rare young people who you meet and you know that they will have a positive impact on the world. And he did, though it was far too short.

I was surprised at how much grief and anger I felt. I did not know him well, and yet I was overcome by the loss. I know that this is the way of the world, and that it is trite to write this: but where is the justice here? How is this right? It certainly doesn’t feel right.
