I like my Skechers, but…

isaburo.jpgBarbara’s comment below regarding Prada reminds me that I need a new bag. The one depicted to the left, the Isaburo 1889 model City 1-2-3 is a frontrunner. Unfortunately, it is literally priceless. OK, that’s not entirely true, you can purchase it in Tokyo (for a “mere” ¥28,000), but I contacted them–no I don’t have that much money to spend on a bag these days!–just to see if they would ship me one. They very politely answered that until they had the design trademarks and patents in place, they could not ship to the US.

Barring that, I suppose I could go for one of the classics, but pedestrian, like a bag from Cartier, Coach, or preferably Pineider (along with some of their engraved paper… mmmm). Or I could go neo-industrial, with a wafer-thin aluminum case, a Pelican case, or a lead-lined custom roll-aboard. Or neo-environmental with a bamboo case, or less-so with a birdseye maple or zebrawood and ebony attaché case. See! I’m not picky.

It’s Skechers, no T. Don’t mess with me I’m the queen of fashion knowledge.

Try this company called Clava American. Reasonably priced, yet less pedestrian than Coach, and some really unique and functional bags.
    Hare’s the link: http://www.clava.com/index.htm

Thanks: I stand corrected, and have edited the title. (Yes, unlike some, I do not consider my mistakes–particularly those in spelling–to be sacrosanct once “published.”) Actually, I’ve been carrying a coach bag (a gift) for about a decade now, on a daily basis, and while it’s not looking so great lately (thanks in part to having just about everything spilled on it at one point or another), it is still going strong and probably will for another 5-10 years. So, I won’t diss Coach :).

Quick note on the title, for those who didn’t catch the ref, it is from 10 Things I Hate About You:
Bianca: You know, there’s a difference between like and love. I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack.
Chastity: But I love my Skechers.
Bianca: That’s because you don’t have a Prada backpack.

You surprise the hell out of me Alex. I say to myself “Here is a guy whose favorite movies I have never heard of, and he randomly drops the ultimate line from a teeny bopper flick.” Stunning Alex, just stunning. You become more of an international man of mystery everyday (think Keyser Söze from “The Usual Suspects”, not Austin Powers).
