Hello, welcome to hell

Please, no. Not only is MTV’s Sorority Life: Season2 filmed at the UB coming to an idiot box near you (along with “Fraternity Life”), about half of the “Rushees” are COM majors. It’s not always true that any publicity is good publicity.

And one of them chose UB because of the beauty of our campus. Either she is more witty than her bio suggests, or they should be doing more drug testing.

I said it once, and I’ll say it again: I can see the value of my degree dropping right now.

Do you think this will effect grad school enrollment?

I suspect it will affect both the number and quality of graduate enrollments, but I know it will have an effect on our undergraduate culture.

After just watching the first episodes of “Sorority Life” and “Fraternity Life,” I have to say that I am impressed by how they made Buffalo and especially UB look so nice (but then again, it hadn’t snowed yet during those shows and everything looks nice from a far away camera angle). I don’t know, I guess I’m just watching them because I know some of those people (the pledgemaster for the sorority was in your MITIA class last semester) and one of my good friends, Chris, is a brother in the fraternity. Also, a little part of me wants to see if I’m in the background in the student union or something- ha! It’s so strange, though, that both of my brothers called me from Florida to tell me they were watching—someone in a different state is watching the school I attend everyday? Weird! :-)

I watched parts of it too. I thought it was kind of cool seeing the campus and other familiar Buffalo landmarks. But I was disappointed? annoyed? embarrassed? I don’t know- at the petty behavior of the students. “She wore shorts to the party” or “I think she gave me a dirty look, let’s not let her in.” It seemed so, well… petty. It made me want to call my college-bound niece and tell her to stay away from everything Greek, even feta cheese.
