Declare yourself

Andre 3000 declares himself

The Declare Yourself votor registration PSAs are powerful, but is it only me or can the fetishization of apathy be read by some of the target audience in a resistant way?

Of these, I prefer the most subtle (pictured above). It’s not that the other messages are not masterfully put together, only that I find them too obvious to be compelling.

I do recognize the value in “Rocking the Vote,” but I would be less ambivalent about such efforts if they clarified the reason such votes matter. The problem is not voter registration, the problem is that many people (especially the youth) find nothing in presidential campaigns that they can really get behind. That’s not surprising, both candidates for the presidency remain yet again moderate conservatives. I have to fight on my own not to be apathetic about that.

sent an email about a group of writers who will be at union square reading protesting bush.

my contact person is steve cannon with whom i have been discussing puting out an edition of tribes magazine titled “sousavaillence”

perhaps a short story submission would be very cool: Tribes has had guest writers such as Toni Morrison, Amiri Baraka, and i think Kurt as well.

i think if we get an article from steve mann, maybe brin and rheingold, we could get a great sell out of the first run.

we got a great internmational “beat” distribution. Its looked at by lots of publishing houses looking for new talent.

its a different way to get the vote out…

Retired people cannot afford to live, if taxes are raised. If retired people are like me, I retired after I had enough invested to live off of dividends from my investments. Last year I had to sell some investments, just to pay my taxes, thereby reducing what I had to live on. I am voting for Bush, because he reduces the tax I have to pay. Also, his brother here in Florida, reduced what I had to pay by Raising to total amount of intangibles that one has to pay an intangible tax.
    Vote for Pres. Bush!

LeeAnne: If you are retired and still garnering an income of over $200K a year, then I frankly don’t have too much sympathy. If your income is less than $200K a year, your fears are unwarranted.

Perhaps more importantly, cutting your taxes and leaving the debt you are accumulating–in the form of the national deficit–to the next generation is amazingly selfish.
