Buffalo Anti-War Vote

I wish I could go to this. I teach at 2…

Please plan on attending Buffalo’s Common Council meeting
tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4th, at 2PM in Council Chambers
on the 13th floor of Buffalo’s City Hall. It will then consider and
vote on the Anti-War resolution sponsored by Council President
James Pitts and Councilman Antoine Thompson. The full text
of the resolution is available on-line in Bruce Jackson’s Buffalo
Report article, linked above. Please show your support. Call
or email your representative and attend the meeting in person
if you possibly can.

While a City of Buffalo Common Council resolution may not
seem important, it is. Together with all the others being passed
by cities across America it will add to a growing and resolute
official voice in opposition to our Nations misguided drive to war.
And equally important, such a resolution will undoubtedly help
others among our still-silent local friends find their own voices
and join with us in the dramatic opposition crescendo from
citizens the world over. We can stop this war. And we will. But
only with your committed help.

In New York, Cornell and Ithica College student governments have passed similar statements, as have the cities of Ithica, Rochester, Syracuse, and others. I would say that a similar effort could be made in Amherst, but I have a feeling its a bit too conservative for that. (Although I was happy recently to see a sign suggesting that Amherst lower the number of its residents who are KKK members…)

Of course, the one-day student strike is Wednesday, which does not conflict with Media Law… :)

I saw “Bowling for Columbine” by Michael Moore tonight. I was wondering if you saw it and what your thoughts were.
