CFP 2003

I missed the Computers, Freedom, & Privacy conference again this year, which is unfortunate, especially considering it was so close this year. However, they will be making available MP3s of the plenary speeches, including, I presume, the keynotes from Bruce Schneier & Larry Lessig. If I have time I’ll have to listen, maybe while I’m [...]

Tweaking

I have a long list of things I want to do with the site. A lot of it has to do with content. The table of contents page was really just a place-holder 2 years ago, and every other page (except this one) is desperately out of date. But I also want to make a [...]

If this were a novel or film, I would complain that the “bad guys” were caricatures, but with Hussein, bin Laden, and Kim Jong-il, news is increasingly difficult to discern from larger-than-life fiction. Saddam idolizes Stalin, but comes off as a real-life [...]

In at the ground floor

Since I’ve now started including tools on my blog, I expect it to go sky high, any day. Better buy blog shares now. Strangely, MonkeyX (one of my favorite toolmakers for many years, who for some reason never made it to my blogroll when I started using one) doesn’t want anyone to talk about this [...]

InterAlta

George wants to look at hyperlink networks between countries, using AltaVista. Others have done this, but I was very resistant. It seemed to me that AltaVista probably had significant deficits in terms of non-English pages, as well as coverage generally. Furthermore, I wasn’t sure you could trust the “we found 34,222,534 links” stuff. Further yet, [...]
