After midnght

Saturday, December 20th, 1997

It’s almost half past midnight, so technically it is Friday, I guess. I have to be up at six to go to work, which pretty much sucks. What’s even suckier is that I still have to finish the 598 summary so that I can drop it off before work tomorrow. And I have already written quite a bit today. Overall, this quarter did not go very well. I simply took on too much. I expect this to be my worst quarter so far, in terms of grades.

Need to put together apps for next year, and make certain the recommendation letters are all lined up.

I got a touchpad for the laptop. I bought it at an online auction for $13. I’m going to try loading Windows 95 and see how well it can handle it. I checked Microsoft’s website today and the laptop meets the minimum requirements, but only barely. I worry that it may be way too slow on this little guy. If it works, I will look into getting a battery and fixing the power button.

Getting there

Wednesday, December 10th, 1997

I finished the papers fir GTTL in a very giri-giri fashion, and was a bit late for class. At least that’s one pin down. I’ll write a preliminary first draft of the 575 paper tonight and try to put together something solid so that I can study for my stats exam tomorrow. Then I need to finish the 575 paper. This is not only my most substantial paper, but my most important one. When I get home tonight I’ll plan out an approach to coding, either by hand or computer.

New Journal

Sunday, December 7th, 1997

I finished off my last journal a couple of months ago, but I didn’t have the time or impetus to try to find a new one. This one was a gift from Jamie, who had purchased it for herself earlier in the year, but never had a chance to write in it.

I’m extremely busy, so I will only do a short entry while I’m getting the computer set up. I have finals for all four of my classes coming up in the next week and I haven’t even thought about two of the papers I need to finish.

Yesterday I took the LSAT and pretty much flubbed it. That kills law school admissions for next year. I did very well on most of the test, but messed up on the logical reasoning part pretty badly. I didn’t manage to even complete it. I’ve estimated that my score will likely be in the high 160s—not nearly good enough to get into a decent law school, given my undergraduate performance.

Jamie got passed over for the manager position (politics), but she won a new couch because she sold so many of them. We’ve been doing a major re-org of the house to try to make space for it, and try to make more space in general. We moved the bed against the wall and moved two bookcases into the bedroom. We then got some utility shelves for the closet by the bathroom and compacted that area enough to move our clothes from the bedroom out there. The next move is to put my desk and computer into the bedroom.

We’re also going to do something about a Christmas tree in the next few days. We already went out and bought (too many) ornaments, so we’re going to need to do it pretty quick.

Finally, I still haven’t signed up for next quarter’s classes or gotten a proposal to John Bowes. I’ll have to work on that and the conference, if I get the time.
